FOREST PARK COMMUNITY EDUCATION COUNCIL
The Park District is a proud member of the Forest Park Community Education Council. The Council was formed in 1974 as an organization that works toward developing programs through inter-agency cooperation. Over the years the Forest Park Community Education Council has been involved in implementing programs such as a three-year old preschool program, the Community Center before and after school Clubhouse, the Grandparents/Senior Friend Breakfast in the schools, the Cindy Lyons Health Fair, the Forest Park Food Pantry, drug education counseling, homework tutoring and ESL classes. The Council has implemented these and other programs and has been successful in finding sponsorship for the continuation of many of them.
The goals of the Council have been to promote interagency cooperation, to eliminate duplication of programs and efforts in the community, to encourage expanded utilization of community facilities, to increase awareness and heighten public responsiveness to the educational system and to provide for more productive use of leisure time.
Primary funding for the Council is provided through its member agencies: the Forest Park Public Schools District 91, the Village of Forest Park and the Park District of Forest Park. These and other organizations are represented on the Council by appointment. The Council meets monthly from August through May. The Coordinator of the Forest Park Community Education Council Larry Piekarz can be reached at the Park District 708-366-7500 ext. 12.
The Park District gratefully acknowledges the cooperative efforts shown by the Community Education Council, the Village of Forest Park and the Forest Park Public Schools District #91 in contributing to recreation programs. Without their help we would not be able to offer many of the programs that we do.
Forest Park Community Garden
The Park District is pleased to be able to provide assistance to the Forest Park Community Garden to provide growing opportunities for the Forest Park community. To get involved in the Community Garden, to support its fundraising efforts, or for other information, visit its website at www.fpcommunitygarden.com.
In an effort to provide families in our district who are under- or non-insured with required physical examinations and immunizations for their children, the Ronald McDonald Mobile Medical Unit will be available at the Park District this summer. This is a great opportunity for you to ensure that your child will be in medical compliance before school begins...at no cost to you. Middle School sports physicals may also be obtained.
Students will be seen on a first come, first serve basis and must be accompanied by a parent.
